Disney World could reopen in late July, one analyst predicts

Orlando Sentinel - - Local & State - By Gabrielle Russon

Disney World could be back in business in late July if the Orlando theme parks follow a similar trajectory as Shanghai Disneyland, one analyst predicted.

“There are still many unknowns, but if the timeline for reopening Downtown Disney in Shanghai and the Shanghai Disneyland is similar for Disney Springs and Disney World, it suggests Disney World would reopen July 22nd, 41 days ahead of our current forecast calling for the beginning of September,” said Rosenblatt Securities analyst Bernie McTernan in a new research note published Thursday.

His estimate comes after Disney made headlines this week announcing some of its properties around the globe and in Florida - are returning, though with strict safety rules in place.

McTernan stresses there are “a lot of assumptions that go into this analysis” but says it’s a good sign Disney Springs is partially opening on May 20.

On Thursday, Disney announced the phased-in approach that will return some of the businesses in the Disney Springs retail-restaurant-entertainment complex.

Shanghai Disneyland will welcome back visitors on Monday, 3 1⁄2 months after it closed Jan. 25 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Chinese version of Disney Springs came on line March 9.

Meanwhile, Disney World
