OUC must focus on energy efficiency
The current COVID-19 crisis has only exasperated the deep inequalities and financial burdens our communities face (“The Orlando Utilities Commission must rethink low-income program,” May 5).
Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando Utilities Commission, as decision-makers of the public utility, can make it easier for households to efficiently decrease their energy consumption and therefore, save on their energy bills. It was unfortunate to read that OUC is the worst in the state in supporting customers to increase their energy efficiency.
Mayor Dyer, please tell OUC to stop focusing on just branding itself as a leader in sustainability and instead prioritize meeting working people’s needs in reaching energy-efficiency levels.
