Legoland Florida gets local approval to reopen as soon as June 1. The park awaits the state’s OK.

Legoland has received permission from local governments to reopen as soon as June 1, but its plans still must be approved by state regulators, according to a report in The Ledger.

Both Winter Haven City and Polk County commissioners signed off the park’s reopening proposal this week, the Lakeland newspaper reported.

Legoland General Manager Rex Jackson told Winter Haven leaders about the restrictions it would operate under during the coronavirus pandemic. He said the park would open to a maximum of about 50% capacity or about 6,000 people.

Jackson also said Legoland would highly recommend but not require guests to wear a face mask and would provide coverings for guests who don’t bring them.

The park won’t let anyone in who has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, Jackson said.

Mayor Brad Dantzler said he would sign a letter to Halsey Beshears, secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional regulation, giving the city’s consent to the reopening, and mail it Thursday. The county commission approved a similar letter on Tuesday.

Under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order, theme parks first must present reopening plans to local governments for their approval, followed by an OK from the Beshears’ agency before they can reopen.
