Kitna joins UF recruiting class of 2021
QB is son of veteran NFL signal-caller Jon
Quarterback Jalen Kitna, son of longtime NFL signal-caller Jon Kitna, has committed to the Florida Gators’ 2021 class.
The younger Kitna announced his decision on Twitter Tuesday, becoming the second quarterback and 17th overall commitment in a class ranked No. 7 nationally by 247Sports.com.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Kitna hails from Reedy High School in Frisco, Texas, and is the nation’s 27th-rated pro style quarterback. If Jalen Kitna follows a similar path as his father, he could be a late bloomer and blossom under UF coach Dan Mullen.
Jon Kitna attended Central Washington University without a scholarship and went on to play 43 games and earn a spot in the school’s athletics Hall of Fame with his long NFL career. Kitna is best remembered for his time with the Seattle Seahawks, but he ultimately played for four teams from 1996-2011. The 47-year-old since has coached high school and professional football, including a stint as quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Jalen Kitna is scheduled to play for his father at Burleson High School during the 2020 season.
Kitna also received offers from Arizona, Oregon State and Yale, among others. This past season he was 111-of-212 passing for 1,501 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions at Reedy, according MaxPreps.com.
Kitna joins four-star quarterback Carlos Del Rio in the 2021 class. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound Del Rio, rated the 11th pro-style quarterback in the current class, has 36 touchdowns and 16 interceptions the past two seasons with McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga.
