Seminole parents favor campus return
More than 80 percent indicate preference in school district survey
More than 80 percent of Seminole County public school parents want their children to return to school for a “traditional oncampus” education when the next school year begins, new school district survey results show.
The survey, done by phone and email, asked parents if they would prefer their children back at school, as they were before the coronavirus pandemic closed campuses in mid-March, or if they would prefer to enroll them in the district’s online school.
The results varied slightly depending on whether their children were in elementary, middle or high school, but on average not quite 20 percent wanted an online school.
High school parents most favored a return to campuses, with more than 85% choosing that option. Elementary school parents showed the most interest in the virtual school, but 80% still wanted their children back on school campuses.
The survey, like similar ones done by school districts around the state, was conducted as part of the school system’s effort to figure out how to reopen public schools and operate in the coming 2020-21 school year.
The Orange County school district’s survey of parents found 37% wanted a return to campuses, 24% wanted a “blended” option that combined online classes with traditional on-cam
