The United Soccer League announced the League One season will kick off July 18, ending a threemonth delay in play for Orlando City B.

The league has yet to announce the format for play or a schedule for upcoming games.

Other soccer leagues in the U.S. have used a singlesite World Cup style tournament format. The National Women’s Soccer League will start its season with the Challenge Cup in Utah at the end of June while Major League Soccer is expected to officially announce details about a similar tournament hosted in Orlando in July.

Ahead of resuming play, the USL announced it will set health and wellness protocols for each club. The league is also currently working on options for clubs located in markets where training and playing would go against local health guidelines.

Before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Orlando City B was set to begin its season on March 28 on the road against New England.

The team had announced a 24-player roster ahead of the season, which included only one player — Austin Amer — from the team’s four-win 2019 season. Fifteen of the players named to the 2020 roster are products of the Orlando City academy program, either earning promotions directly from the academy or returning to the club after college.

League One operates as the second-tier league in USL. The first-tier league, USL Championship, will kick off its season July 11 using an format that has not yet been announced.
