5 wardrobe staples to get you through quarantine

SIMPLE STYLE

We’re all trying to navigate this new normal and most of us have found ourselves spending more time at home than ever before. I’ve compiled this list of five wardrobe staples to get you through quarantine based on items that I’ve found most comfortable and beneficial day after day. The best part of this is that everything on the list is under or around $50, so you don’t have to worry about dropping a ton of money in a time when we are all being extremely conscious about our budgets.

1. Slip-on shoes. Slip-on shoes have been a lifesaver for me and stay right by my door. These shoes are comfortable and perfect for a store run, getting the mail or taking out the trash. The slip-on design makes it easy to quickly put on shoes without using your hands or having to grab a pair of socks.

2. Fuzzy jacket. Does it get much better than a fuzzy jacket? Probably not, but as an added bonus, a super soft version from retailer Uniqlo is very affordable and comes in a range of colors. It’s perfect to snuggle up on the couch with and easy to throw on when you’re heading out the door to run errands or taking a quick walk with the dog.

3. Leggings with pockets. Last year during the Nordstrom anniversary sale I bought my first pair of leggings with pockets and have since purchased four more pairs. I didn’t realize how badly I wanted a pocket for my phone until I started wearing leggings almost daily during the pandemic, but having a place to conveniently place your phone makes nearly every task way easier. Leggings are already high on the list for comfort, so adding practical and helpful pockets makes them a necessity.

4. Bralette. While staying at home, many women have forgone the traditional bra, and wireless bra sales are up by 40% as women work from home amid coronavirus. If you don’t want to forgo a bra altogether, but are looking for something more comfortable, a bralette may just be the piece for you. They are affordable from stores like Target and Nordstrom Rack, and are comfortable while still providing some support. And don’t think you have to give up aesthetics. There are plenty of pretty styles and designs to choose from.

5. Mask. Yes, wearing a mask isn’t always comfortable and it’s not something any of us want to put on, but a mask is essential to help slow the spread of the virus that has put us in quarantine. If you are into DIY, there are great tutorials on how to sew a mask at home, and tutorials on how to make a no-sew mask on the fly. If you want to buy one, consider supporting a small business or local crafter. Out of all the items, this is probably the one you want to wear the least, but it is easily the most important item on the list.

Be safe everyone!
