Miami-Dade looks to open beaches
Florida’s most populous county is about to reopen beaches closed since midMarch because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Beaches will reopen Wednesday at the latest, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Monday.
The reopening had been scheduled for June 1st, but was postponed after violence erupted during protests held in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“We plan to open the beaches no later than Wednesday. And so I’ll talk to my police director today and we’re going to talk about the curfew for tonight. There’s good possibility that we lift the curfew tonight,” Gimenez said at a news conference at the county emergency operations center.
“We need a little bit of time to get the people prepared to open up the beaches. I want to do that no later than Wednesday,” Gimenez said.
