Rodgers lauds getting drafted

- By Iliana Limón Romero

As the 2015 Major League Baseball amateur draft closed on this date in 2015, Lake Mary High shortstop Brendan Rodgers still could not believe his good fortune.

Rodgers was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.

“All of my friends and family are happy for me,” Rodgers told the Orlando Sentinel. “I am happy for myself. I am ready to get started with the next step.”

Rodgers was also elated to hear from a Rockies star welcoming him to the franchise.

“I texted back and forth with [shortstop Troy] Tulowitzki a little bit,” Rodgers said. “He just said to feel free to ask any questions if I need any help.”

The Lake Mary star said he was accustomed to pressure and he didn’t mind the buzz surrounding his as he waited to become one of the highest Central Florida area draft picks.

His poise was tested as he battled a mix of injuries and hitting slumps as he worked his way through the Rockies’ minor-league system.

Rodgers made his MLB debut during the 2019 season, recording an RBI during his first at-bat.
