Tax collector files for re-election, ex-WWE wrestler Morgan seeks commission seat
Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, who faced criticism after pulling over a woman for speeding even though he doesn’t have such authority and other controversies, is running for a second term and drew four opponents by the time qualifying ended at noon Friday.
Greenberg will face candidates Brian Beute and J.R. Kroll in the Aug. 18 Republican primary. The winner of the primary will face Democrat Lynn Moira Dictor and non-partisan candidate Daniel Day in the Nov. 3 general election.
Beute of Chuluota is a schoolteacher and founding member of Save Rural Seminole, a citizens group formed to rally against development in east Seminole. Kroll, of Sanford, is a real estate broker. Dictor is a former radio talk show personality. Day lives in Winter Springs.
Greenberg, first elected in 2016, could not be reached for comment.
Also on the ballot will be Property Appraiser David Johnson, a Republican, who faces a challenge from former Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett, who filed as a non-partisan candidate, in the general election.
County Commissioner Bob Dallari will go against Longwood Mayor Matt Morgan in the Republican primary for the District 1 seat. The winner will face Democrat Katrina Shadix in the November general election.
Morgan, a former WWE champion wrestler who was first elected to the Longwood commission in 2017, said he decided to cast his name for the countywide seat because residents outside his city have asked him for his help over the past year.
“I’ve been getting calls and emails from so many people in other cities asking me to help them out,” said Morgan. He plans to move to Oviedo in the coming months to meet the seat’s residency requirement.
Dallari, who was first elected in 2004, said getting the economy back on track is one of the key points of his campaign.
“I have the experience from when we had the Great Recession,” Dallari said. “We actually cut taxes, and we didn’t cut services then. And I don’t plan to cut services now.”
Seminole Commissioner Lee Constantine faces a challenge from Longwood Commissioner Ben Paris in the Republican primary in the District 3 race. The winner will run against Democrat Kim
Buchheit election.
In the race for the county commission’s District 5 seat, Democrats Pernell Bush and Mike Clelland will face each other in the primary. The winner will vie for the seat in the general election with Republican Andria Herr, Libertarian Andre Klass and write-in candidate Blaize McMonagle. Incumbent Commissioner Brenda Carey is not seeking another term.
In other general election races: Democrat Kristina Renteria will face incumbent Grant Maloy, a Republican, for the clerk of courts seat. Republican and incumbent Chris Anderson faces a challenge from Democrat Deborah Poulalion in the supervisor of elections race.
