Candidates running dueling fundraisers

It’s a tale of two parties for state Senate candidates in Seminole County this week.

Each fundraising event will feature a prominent local sports figure, with former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy headlining Democrat Patricia Sigman’s and former New York Yankee Johnny Damon of Windermere the star attraction of Republican Jason Brodeur’s.

Sigman’s meeting on Tuesday will be entirely online. But Wednesday’s fundraiser for Brodeur will be in person at McKinnon Groves in Winter Garden.

The two approaches serve as local examples of the parties’ overall attitude toward the coronavirus outbreak, more than three months after it first burst into the public consciousness.
