Former Miami QB has transfer destination

- By David Furones

Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jarren Williams has decided on Garden City Community College — a junior college in Kansas — as his transfer destination, according to multiple reports.

Williams, who entered the NCAA’s transfer portal in January, has yet to officially announce his decision as of Monday afternoon. JuCo Football Forer was first to report the news on Twitter on Sunday night.

A starter as a redshirt freshman last season, Williams has three years of college eligibility remaining. By playing at a junior college, he does not have to sit out next fall, which he likely would have had he transferred to another Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school.

Williams won a preseason quarterback competition over N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell ahead of the 2019 season to be named UM’s starter. He threw for 2,187 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions, completing 169 of 276 passes (61.2 percent) in 12 games (10 starts).

The Hurricanes offense struggled during the final three games of the season — losses to FIU, Duke and Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl — and Miami finished 6-7 after Williams peaked with a school-record six touchdown passes against Louisville on Nov. 9.

Former Houston quarterback D’Eriq King transferred to Miami this offseason as a redshirt senior and is expected to start in Miami’s up-tempo scheme under new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.
