Enzian announces new Florida Film Festival dates
Enzian Theater has announced rescheduled dates for the 29th Annual Florida Film Festival — which was originally scheduled for April but was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The movie fest that features more than 170 films will now take place Aug. 7-20 at the Maitland venue. The theater is also exploring the possibility of virtual options to enhance the onsite festival.
“We are excited to announce that we have been able to retain over 90% of the original festival lineup. In addition, we are also able to bring in some outstanding new films that were previously unavailable in April,” said Matthew Curtis, Enzian’s programming director, in a press release.
The full schedule will be released July 15.
Competition categories include short films (both narrative and animation), documentary films (both short and feature-length), narrative features and international films (both short and feature-length). Awards are determined by a jury of film professionals and an audience vote.
The Florida Film Festival is the only one in the Sunshine State accredited as a qualifying festival for the Oscars in all short film categories: Live-Action, Animation and Documentary. The winner of the Grand Jury Award in each of these categories will automatically qualify to enter the following year’s Academy Awards.
Enzian, which has already reopened to the public with enhanced safety precautions such as increased sanitizing measures, will have limited seating during the festival due to the current 50 percent capacity regulation.
“We are taking every measure possible to make your return to the theater enjoyable,” said Janie Pope, Enzian’s director of development and public relations, in a press release. “Our seating has been physically distanced to ensure safety and comfortability. We look forward to showcasing these incredible films at the festival and welcoming you all back to your local art house theater.”
Passes and packages are on sale now, and individual tickets will be available July 15. For more information, go to floridafilmfestival.com or enzian.org.
