Longtime anchor Frier says goodbye to Fox 35

- By Kathleen Christiansen

Anchor Bob Frier is leaving WOFL-Fox 35, according to a post on his Facebook page.

In the post, he writes that it has been an “honor and privilege” to be welcomed into the homes of Central Floridians for more than a decade.

“We’ve had some amazing moments together, from natural disasters to infamous trials, and I’ve been proud to stand with you as not just a person who delivers the news, but as a part of this extraordinary community,” he writes.

He went on to thank Central Floridians for their support over the years before concluding, “With that, my time here at FOX 35 has run its course. I’m proud of the work I did here and hopefully the difference I’ve made in the community.”

Frier, who declined a Sentinel request for comment, is no longer listed on Fox 35’s website.

“We’re proud of Bob’s work over the years at FOX 35,” said Mike McClain, Fox 35 senior vice president and general manager, in an email. “We wish him the best for the future.”

Frier came to Fox 35 in November 2009, after eight years at Orlando’s CBS affiliate, WKMGChannel 6.

He originally anchored

WOFL’s 10 p.m. newscast, then moved to morning to anchor Good Day Orlando. He’s covered major events in Florida for the last two decades, including the devastating hurricanes of 2004, the Shuttle Columbia disaster, the 2008 presidential election and the Pulse nightclub shooting.

In addition to being an award-winning journalist,

Frier has worked closely with local charities, emceed events and served on the board for the Steinway Society of Central Florida, which makes instruments available for aspiring musicians. He was also recently given a Life Saving Award by the Lake Mary Police Department for his actions in helping to save a Central Florida woman.
