Mount Dora closes pool after employees test positive

- — Staff writers Richard Tribou and John Cutter contributed to this report.

Mount Dora has closed its community pool after two employees there tested positive for the coronavirus.

The pool reopened on June 15, but the city said Friday it “is closed and will not reopen until the public safety risk has been eliminated and staffing ratios can return to normal.”

Anyone who was in contact with any employees at the pool is urged to quarantine and watch for symptoms. Lake County maintains a list of testing sites and other information at www.lakecountyfl.gov.

City officials said they have notified people who were in contact with the pool employees. Anyone with questions should contact Leisure Services at parksandrec@cityofmountdora.com.

As with other places across Florida, Lake County has seen a spike in COVID-19 infections. As of Thursday, the county had 881 cases, which is more than double two weeks ago.

One of the news cases was Master Detention Deputy Lynn Jones of the Lake County Sheriff ’s Office. He died earlier this week after testing positive for the coronavirus, one of 18 employees and more than 100 inmates at the county jail with the infection.
