Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale goes virtual
The 12th annual Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale is going virtual this year.
The Fort Lauderdale edition will showcase 21 contemplative, comedic and creative films from 11 countries. Several of these works, such as “Walking with Shadows,” will make their U.S. debuts during the event.
“This year’s Fort Lauderdale edition of the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival will follow in the footsteps of our successful Miami virtual edition which simultaneously opened-up the dialogue for equality in film throughout the state of Florida, for the first time,” said Victor Gimenez, executive director of the Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival, in a press release. “Despite the current health pandemic climate, interest in diverse arts and film has continued to grow and we’re thrilled to share these culturally significant U.S. debuts and internationally award-winning stories championing unity and acceptance with a much broader audience.”
All films will be available to viewers throughout the Sunshine State, including in Central Florida, from Dec. 3-6.
The event also includes livestreamed special events with cocktail happy hours, talent and Q-and-A sessions as well as a closing awards ceremony that takes place 8 p.m. Dec. 6 via Zoom. For those looking for a freebie, the fest presents the complimentary 10th-anniversary screening of “BearCity” at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
In addition to streaming, the festival will host the socially distanced Outshine Drive-out screening of “Cowboys” at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Pier 66 Marina (2150 S.E. 17th St. in Fort Lauderdale).
Tickets for individual films cost $7.50 and packages range from $37.50-$100. Drive-out tickets are $40 per vehicle. For more information, call 305-751-6305 or go to outshinefilm.com.
