’Canes expected to land transfer

- By David Furones

Miami Hurricanes coach Jim Larrañaga’s run to the Final Four at his previous stop, George Mason, was 15 years ago. But his name still carries weight in Fairfax, Virginia.

Enough so that he could land George Mason’s top scorer last season on a transfer. The South Florida Sun Sentinel can confirm that Patriots guard Jordan Miller is expected to transfer to Miami.

Miller had not yet announced his decision as of Sunday afternoon. The expected move was first reported by the Miami Herald.

Miller, a 6-foot-6 junior, led George Mason with his 15.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season. He also averaged two assists per game and nearly a steal per contest. In 2019-20, Miller was second on the Patriots in scoring (12.7) and third in rebounding (5.3).

A lefty, Miller was Virginia’s Class 4A Player of the Year while at Loudon Valley High School, where he is the all-time leading scorer.

The addition of Miller gives the UM backcourt a boost after losing guards Chris Lykes (Arkansas), Earl Timberlake (Memphis) and Elijah Olaniyi (Stony Brook) to transfers.

Miami center Nysier Brooks also transferred to Ole Miss, and forward Matt Cross ended up at Louisville after he and the program parted ways midseason.

Miami has announced the return of forward Sam Waardenburg, center Rodney Miller and forward/center Deng Gak as players using an extra year of college eligibility the NCAA has granted because the 2020-21 season was played amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hurricanes’ football team also has a defensive tackle by the same name, Jordan Miller.
