Former FSU standouts make ballot
Dunn and Warrick among first-time candidates for HOF
Former Florida State standouts Warrick Dunn and Peter Warrick are among a group of first-time candidates on the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame ballot released Wednesday by the National Football Foundation.
Dunn and Warrick are among the 26 players and one coach making their first appearances on the ballot, which contained 78 candidates and seven coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Former Florida running back Errict Rhett and Miami offensive tackle Bryant McKennie were also among the inaugural candidates.
Dunn led the Seminoles to a national championship in 1993 and was the only rusher in school history to gain more than 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. He’s second on FSU’s all-time rushing list behind Dalvin Cook with 3,959 yards and 37 rushing touchdowns.
Warrick was a two-time All-American who led the Seminoles to the 1999 season’s national championship, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the team’s Sugar Bowl win over Virginia Tech. He finished as the program’s all-time leader in receiving with 3,517 yards and is the program leader in receiving touchdowns (32).
The pair are looking to join Terrell Buckley (2019), Derrick Brooks (2016) and Fred Biletnikoff (1991) as the only Florida State players in the hall of fame.
The latest FBS coach added to the list was Larry Coker, who led Miami to a 60-15 record including back-to-back BCS Championship appearances and the 2001 season’s national title.
The ballot also includes 99 players and 33 coaches from the divisional ranks.
Joining Dunn and Warrick as firsttime candidates are Shaun Alexander (Alabama), LaVar Arrington (Penn State), Mark Bavaro (Notre Dame), Eric Berry (Tennessee), Reggie Bush (USC), Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech), Sylvester Croom (Alabama), Jarett Dillard (Rice), Nick Eyre (BYU), Toby Gerhart (Stanford), Graham Harrell (Texas Tech), Garrison Hearst (Georgia), Bradie James (LSU), Levon Kirkland (Clemson), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Marshawn Lynch (Cal), Jeremy Macklin (Missouri), Bryant McKinnie (Miami), Terry Miller (Oklahoma State), Herman Moore (Virginia), Kellen Moore (Boise State), Paul Posluszny (Penn State) and Kevin Smith (Texas A&M).
Candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria, including being a first-team All-American at some point during their careers. They must also have been 10 seasons removed from their final collegiate game.
The 2022 College Football Hall of Fame class will be announced in early 2022.
