White Castle reopens takeout-only site
White Castle has reopened its ghost kitchen west of downtown Orlando for takeout burger sliders following a record-setting month for the opening of the chain’s full restaurant near Walt Disney World.
The ghost kitchen, which does not have a dining room, is at 18 N. Dollins Ave. and allows customers to order up to 60 sliders as well as sides and desserts through the company’s website or app. Delivery is not currently available.
The Ohio-based chain opened its first full restaurant in Florida since the 1960s in May. That restaurant, in the O-Town West development near Walt Disney World, set a single-day sales record for White Castle on its opening day.
“The first four weeks of our operation in Orlando for the new Castle were the biggest four weeks we’ve ever had at one single restaurant,” said White Castle vice president Jamie Richardson.
It has maintained “exceedingly strong levels of customer visits” since its opening on May 3 and continued to reinforce how happy the company is to have a Central Florida presence, Richardson said.
The takeout restaurant near downtown, which now employs 22 people, briefly opened in February, but had to close because of overwhelming demand. It is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and customers can set a time for pickup.
The ghost kitchen facility at 18 N. Dollins Ave. has multiple restaurants operating out of it.
The opening of the full White Castle near Disney World gave the company “permission” to bring back the takeout spot, Richardson said.
“Our mobile app and online ordering allow customers to pick a time when they would like to pick up their food,” Richardson said. “This allows us to manage the flow of orders so we’re able to make sure all cravings are satisfied and we’re meeting customer expectations.”
