First Academy pitcher, coach claim Dairy Farmers honors

Junior pitcher Isaac Sewell and head coach Scott Grove are finalists for Florida Dairy Farmers statewide baseball honors after leading The First Academy to its first state championsh­ip last month.

Sewell was named Class 3A player of the year and Grove was named 3A coach of the year on Friday following a round of voting by coaches and media representa­tives.

Overall Dairy Farmers Mr. Baseball and coachof-the-year winners are scheduled to be announced Thursday.

Sewell finished the season with an 11-0 record, 1.32 earned run average and 93 strikeouts in 74 innings. He claimed the 3A award by a 130-111 point total over Sal Stewart of Miami Westminste­r Christian.

The Royals defeated Westminste­r 3-0 for the 3A state championsh­ip on May 25 and finished with a 30-1 record.

Sewell was the only Orlando area baseball player to finish in the top three in Dairy Farmers voting for each of the state’s seven classifica­tions. Mount Dora Christian coach Jason Sanders came in third in Class 2A voting after leading the Bulldogs to a state semifinal.

The list of 2021 Mr. Baseball finalists includes Durant’s Sean Hermann (Class 7A), Fleming Island’s Cody Carwile (6A), Archbishop McCarthy’s Andrew

Ildefonso (5A), North Marion’s Deric Fabian (4A), Out-of-Door Academy’s Logan Tribble (2A) and Class 1A co-players of year Justen Crews and Luke Ridley out of Newberry.

Dairy Farmers softball: Eustis sophomore pitcher Libby Levendoski finished fourth in final Florida Dairy

Farmers Miss Softball voting on Tuesday. Eustis coach Brittany Beall came in fifth overall for the coachof-the-year award.

Levendoski and Beall, who each previously earned top Dairy Farmers recognitio­n in Class 4A, helped the Panthers win their first FHSAA state championsh­ip

and finish with a 27-1 record last month.

Levendoski secured three first-place votes and finished with 90 total points. The Miss Softball award was won by Trenton’s Darian Ingram with 110 points. Lakewood Ranch’s Cassidy McLellan came in second with 104 points,

followed by Doral Academy’s Alyssa Zabala with 100 points.

T.J. Goelz of Lakewood Ranch was named Dairy Farmers softball coach of the year.
