Beal to miss Olympics due to COVID positive

-

On a U.S. basketball team filled with stars, nobody scored more than Bradley Beal during the season.

At the top of his NBA game, he was finally set to take on the international one.

The coronavirus has wrecked his Olympic dreams.

Beal will miss the Tokyo Olympics after being placed into health and safety protocols and USA Basketball said Thursday it will replace him on its roster at a later date.

The Americans also announced that Pistons forward Jerami Grant has also been played in health and safety protocols “out of an abundance of caution.” He’s not expected to miss the Olympics.

It’s unclear if Beal has been vaccinated. He had started all three exhibitions so far in Las Vegas, averaging 10.3 points on 10-for-21 shooting.

The Wizards guard was second in the NBA this season with 31.3 points per game.

U.S. forward Bam Adebayo said Beal told him that he had no symptoms.

ESPN reported that Friday’s game against Australia may be canceled. Golf: Sisters Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand shot an 11-under 59 in best-ball play to take a two-stroke lead at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in Midland, Michigan. The Jutanugarns had a 14-under 126 total after opening with a 67 on Wednesday in alternate-shot play.

NFL: The Panthers and RT Taylor Moton, 26, agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal, narrowly beating the deadline to sign players with the franchise tag to a contract extension. The deal includes $43 million in guaranteed money, according to reports. WNBA: Wings G Arike Ogunbowale scored 26 points and the WNBA All-Star team beat the U.S. Olympic team 93-85 on Wednesday in the league’s All-Star Game in Las Vegas. Ogunbowale earned MVP honors. Mercury C Brittney Griner (17 points) led the Olympic team.
