Other ways to blow your Galactic Starcruiser budget
Sticker shock can be understood after the sample rates for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser were posted last week. Walt Disney World’s outer-space experience isn’t far, far away anymore. Its debut is set for some time next spring.
But you should have been braced that this trip was going to be pricey. After all, it’s immersive. It’s exclusive; nowhere else on Earth will this be available. It’s from Disney, which draws from an international crowd. It’s new construction, currently going up adjacent to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
Disney announced three sample standard rates. The least expensive one was $4,809, which covers two guests for two nights and the experiences while aboard Halcyon, the Galactic Starcruiser vessel. The released prices are based on “most weeknights” between Aug. 20, 2022, and Sept. 17, 2022. I won’t tell you how to spend your money. And I won’t say “that’s too much” to Disney, which has a knack for pricing its goods at a level that’s more than you’d like to pay … but you will, indeed, pay.
But just for grins and fantasy travel purposes, here are five other ways to spend $4,809 or so. (Prices are without taxes. We’re trying to have fun here.)
For $1,596, two nights can be spent this month at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. That’s two queen beds in a room with a “theme park view.” That’s good access to Dole Whip and Magic Kingdom, but that would cost extra.
With $4,809, a Star Wars fan could buy 68 Galaxy’s Edge adult tunics (tan). Disney sells them for $69.99 apiece. They would be lovely gifts for fellow Halcyon cruisers.
For $4,235, two adults could take a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise out of Port Canaveral aboard Disney Cruise Line in a cabin (“verandah” level) plus the Star Wars Day at Sea programming.
For that same $4,809, a Florida resident can buy Disney World’s four-day Summer Fun Ticket for themselves and 21 friends. Plus a Mickey bar.
For the Galactic Starcruiser basic level, you could buy 437 of the sporks (with travel bags) sold at Docking Bay 7, a restaurant at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. They sell for $10.99 apiece.
Alas, we must shake our fists at the small spork print: Limit one.
