2 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week
Two Central Florida restaurants received emergency orders to shut down in the week of Sept. 12-18, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Orange County
Omelet Bar at 12250 Strategy Blvd. Ste 401-407 in Orlando shut down on Sept. 15.
Inspectors found 13 violations, four of which were a high priority.
Those violations included live flying insects, roach activity, raw meat over bread, and the improper storage of a chemical substance.
Officials revisited on Sept. 16 and found two violations, one of which was a high priority for roach activity.
There were two visits on Sept. 17. The first visit still contained roach activity, but no violations were found on a visit later that day, and the venue was allowed to reopen.
Polk County
China Express at 807 Eagle Ridge Dr. in Lake
Wales shut down on Sept. 16.
Inspectors found 10 violations, four of which were a high priority.
Those violations included improper sewage disposal at floor drains in the kitchen area, in-use utensils stored at the wrong temperature.
Roach and rodent activity was also found in the restaurant.
Officials visited again on Sept. 17 and allowed the restaurant to reopen after finding only one basic violation.
Complaints and warnings
Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 37.
Volusia had 19, Brevard had 18, Seminole had 8, Lake had 4, and Osceola had 9. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
In surrounding counties, 9 warnings or complaints were filed in Polk and 2 in Sumter.
