No, really. Ask me!
Happy Anniversary to Ask Amy Drew, which debuted one year ago.
In the time since — and wholly inspired by reader-generated questions — together we’ve covered a range of diverse topics and brought many faces in our food community to the forefront while doing so.
We’ve discussed cleaning everything from a citrus squeezer to an entire fridge. Fun foods, ingredients, recipes and condiments — jackfruit to cold brew, Chamoy to crab cakes, bananas beyond belief and the best flour to use for bagels.
We’ve covered etiquette — which fork to use for what and (incredibly) why it’s not a good idea for your dog to be on the table in a restaurant.
But the question I get most often is still this one:
How do you churn out so much content?!
I appreciate that. The core of my annual Orlando Sentinel workload is comprised of 208 stories. Four features per week. Minimally.
This number does not include any of those splashy front-page or travel section forays. Or last-minute news items. Or the Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards. Or anything else. All that is extra. And brings the total up considerably.
Fifty-two of them, though, are for Ask Amy Drew, which means you can help me drive this double-decker bus.
If just 52 of you send me a question, we can map this column out for the whole of 2022! (And those of you so sweetly concerned for my workload can play a role in making it a little easier.)
Does anyplace around here serve quail? Who uses compostable food containers? What is geoduck?
Surely, there’s something you want to know. Surely, there’s an Orlando-local business you were meant to find. Surely, I am the one to make these connections for you. (And surely, I’m going to make a Leslie Nielsen “Airplane” reference.)
So, go ahead. Make my year. Send a question! Let’s continue on this path of meeting people in our neighborhood — and learning lots along the way.
