Thousands of dogs and owners to gather for annual fundraiser
The dog days of summer may be behind us, but there will be a huge dog day coming to Lake Eola next month.
Paws in the Park, an annual fundraiser for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, gathers thousands of pooches and owners for a day of pet-centric activities and merriment on Feb. 12. The event, which represents Orlando’s largest pet festival now in its 28th year, features furry friends up for adoption, doggy sports, a pet costume contest, vendors and more.
“After what has undoubtedly been an extremely challenging year for us and for many, we could not think of anything better than gathering together outside with our incredible animal-loving community,” said Steve Bardy, Pet Alliance’s executive director, in a news release. “[We’re] celebrating the deep love we all have for our furry family members and friends at what is always a fun-filled and memorable day for everyone.”
The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with fundraising awards, followed by the fan-favorite pet costume contest with “celebrity” judges and cash prizes. Dogs and owners can also enjoy a walk around the lake in a large pet parade.
As the day goes on, canine and human visitors can explore dock diving, lure courses, a beer garden, food trucks, pet products and plenty of adoption opportunities. Pet Alliance’s mobile vet will also be on-site providing free vaccines.
Funds raised from the festival will help Pet Alliance save more than 5,200 dogs and cats this year with shelter and care until they’re adopted.
