Police: Man in stable condition after being struck by gunfire in Orlando shooting
A man who was shot and rushed to the hospital after a downtown Orlando shooting early Monday was in stable condition hours after his surgery, police say.
Three male suspects, two juveniles and one adult, are currently in custody, said Lt. Frank Chisari at a press conference.
“I’m not ready to release names yet,” he said. “[We’re] still ongoing with the interviews and with who’s going to be charged with what. We should be able this afternoon to release the names of our arrestees along with charges.”
Chisari said investigators do not have a motive for the shooting at this time.
“That’s all things that we’re trying to figure out through the course of interviewing our victim, who just got out of surgery so we’ve been unable to talk to him,” he said. “... We are confident that we have everybody that is involved in the shooting.”
At around 4:30 a.m. OPD responded to a shooting in the 300 block of West Church Street and Liberty Avenue intersection, where officers found a 24-yearold man suffering from a gunshot wound, said OPD spokeswoman Andrea Otero. Chisari said officers began to render aid.
“We do believe that application of the tourniquet saved the victim’s life in this instance,” he said.
The victim was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center and taken into the surgery in a critical but stable state, Otero said.
At 7:24 a.m., someone else called about a “suspicious” person attempting to steal a bike from a fenced-off area, Chisari said. The description from the caller matched the description of one of the suspects from the earlier shooting, he said.
“As officers converged on that location, they were able to locate all three suspects,” Chisari said.
