Orange and Seminole county high school senior baseball players will receive a proper sendoff this weekend in support of cancer research.

The inaugural Cure All-Stars Baseball Game takes place Saturday at noon at Sanford Memorial Stadium, located at 1201 Mellonville Ave.

Among senior players selected to participate are UCF signees Greg Pettay and Riley Parker of The First Academy, Florida State signees Ben Barrett (TFA) and Titan Kamaka (West Orange), Florida Gators signees Luke Heyman (Lake Brantley) and Will Ross (West Orange), and University of Miami signee Blake Cyr (Windermere High).

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students between the ages of 7 and 18. Kids aged 6 and under are free.

The Orlando Sports Foundation and Florida Collegiate Summer League have teamed up to host the event, which will include moments that highlight cancer awareness and a pause in the game in remembrance of those affected by the disease.

“The whole mission is to bring these teams together to help raise money for a cure for cancer,” Florida League president Stefano Foggi said. “The timing is perfect for it. It’s a great opportunity to send these seniors off on a high note, and we’re really excited about that.”

Players were selected to rosters based on their achievements this school year in the classroom and on the baseball field.

A coaches’ committee consisting of Lake Brantley’s Eric Entrekin, Oviedo’s Andy Lyon, Seminole’s Kenne Brown, TFA’s Scott Grove, Timber Creek’s Tim Beaman and Eric Lassiter of Windermere High helped organize the game.

“The excitement from the coaches and players since the game was announced and the rosters came out has surpassed my expectations,” Foggi said. “It’s a pretty close-knit area we have here, and a lot of the Orange and Seminole coaches know each other and have great relationships. It’s really cool to see.”
