Will’s Pub hosts benefit concert
Friends, bandmates raising funds for Mick Crowley, an Orlando musician with cancer
Mick Crowley, an Orlando guitarist and member of the band The Tremolords, thought he beat cancer in his throat before a recent PET scan revealed it had spread to his lungs.
The musician is currently battling stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma, but friends, bandmates and local businesses are banding together to raise money to help with his expensive treatment.
“He jokingly said ‘stage 4’ bands for this event, that was his idea,” said Ken Chiodini, Crowley’s friend and bandmate. “He’s got a wicked sense of humor, he’s hilarious. He’s the nicest guy in the world. He’s always smiling and joking, plus he’s a brilliant guitar player.”
The benefit concert, dubbed “GIMME MICK! one STAGE/4 bands!” is 5-10 p.m. July 10 and will feature The Chotchkies, The BellTowers, Kissing Betty and The Tremolords.
“In Mick’s absence, we’re a three-piece now. We’ve been playing shows as a three-piece, trying to learn how to do it,” Chiodini said, noting that Crowley is welcome back when he recovers: “The doors are wide open.”
The 21-and-older show costs $10 or more as a donation for entry. The event will include prizes and raffles including gift cards, original art, band merch and other gifts from local
businesses.
“We’re hoping to raise as much money as we possibly can,” Chiodini said. “We’ve got tons of raffles, stores are pitching in from all over town.”
