Inspections shut down 3 Central Florida restaurants last week
Three Central Florida restaurants shut down in the week of Oct. 2-8, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Volusia County River Deck Restaurant

N. Riverside Drive in New Smyrna Beach shut down on Oct. 6. Officials found 10 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included flying insects, rodent activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. Officials made a second visit on Oct. 7. They found three violations, none of which were a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards and was allowed to reopen.
Spellbound Cafe at 208 W. Howry Ave. in DeLand shut down on Oct 6. Inspectors found one high-priority violation for rodent activity. A second visit to the restaurant on the same day found no violations.
C’s Waffles Edgewater at 1401 S. Ridgewood Ave. Unit 1, in Edgewater shut down Oct. 6. Inspectors found 11 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee failing to wash their hands before working with food, rodent activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second visit the same day found three violations. None were a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
Complaints and warnings
Orange tied for the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with seven.
Volusia County had one, Brevard had seven, Seminole had two, Lake had four, and Osceola had one. Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
