Enzian is bringing its midnight Freaky Fridays series into 2023, and is starting the year with a bang, bringing “The Killer Robots! Robotica Destructiva” to the big screen. This is the third feature from Orlando-based group The Killer Robots, and includes several notable Orlando performers including cult film personality Babette Bombshell, Gargamel frontman Mandaddy and Vegan Black Metal Chef, Brian Manowitz.

Director Sam Gaffin describes the film as “A mix of GWAR, [and] Saturday morning cartoons, but live action with people and recyclable costumes.”

The movie has an experimental format and was filmed over several years, primarily on weekends, with Gaffin capturing performances individually using green screens. He said his primary reason for making the film (and the two that came before it) was to hang out with friends and have a good time.

“It’s just fun to do,” Gaffin said. “I’ve always liked comic books and 80s cartoons and stuff and [I] want to just emulate that stuff.”

Though this is the third feature from The Killer Robots, this will be the first time a feature from the group will be screened on a big screen.

“I’m kind of nervous about it,” Gaffin said. “What could go wrong?”

Tickets are $11 per person and include a free popcorn and soda, tea or lemonade for each attendee. Enzian member discounts will be honored. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime and regular food service will not be available.

For February’s Freaky Fridays screening, Enzian will be screening 1970’s “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.”

All screenings take place at Enzian Theater, 1300 S. Orlando Ave. in Maitland. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit enzian.org/ films/special-programs/ freaky-fridays.
