Best Sushi

-

Will the third James Beard Award semifinalist nod be the charm for Kabooki Sushi chef Henry Moso? Only time will tell, but I don’t need them to tell me he deserves an award.

With two gorgeous restaurants (Have you seen the new lounge at the Colonial Drive location? Ra-sha-sha!) and dramatic plates that live up to that theatrical name, including some absolutely exquisite desserts — seriously, leave room — the Sentinel is handing the Kabooki team a figurative statue ahead of the finalist announcements, due to drop March 29.

Kabooki is also home to one of the best omakase experiences in the city ($300, 10-15 courses — whoof!), but you need not drop that kind of cabbage to experience the multitude of delights on its Michelin-selected menu.

Sushi Pop is my jam — y’all know that. Even though the Winter Park location shuttered this year, they’re still going strong in Oviedo, where the funky brunch menu has moved, as well. And for those of you who dig a volcano roll — no shame — I’m throwing Sushi Lola’s into the mix for its deliciously dirty maki and an unapologetic use of cream cheese that’s unapologetically beloved by many a lauded Orlando chef. Bonus: There’s Korean food, too.

Don’t hate, people. Food is supposed to be fun.
