Authorities issue warrant for rapper Kodak Black
Say positive drug test violated his pre-trial release
Rapper Kodak Black is facing another arrest in Broward County after authorities say he violated his pre-trial release conditions.
Black was last arrested July 16 on charges of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was released the next day on a $75,000 bond.
The hip-hop artist, whose legal name is Bill Kahan Kapri, has to take drug tests as part of his pre-trial release program. He did not show up for a required test on Feb. 3, although he did go on Feb. 8, when he tested positive for fentanyl, according to an affidavit filed by the Broward Sheriff ’s Office. A warrant for his arrest followed on Thursday.
Black has had several run-ins with law enforcement over the past few years.
In April 2019, he was arrested on drugs and weapons charges as he
attempted to re-enter the United States from Canada near Niagara Falls, N.Y.
In May 2019, he was arrested on a weapons charge before he was about to perform at Rolling Loud, a hip-hop festival at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. He pleaded guilty to the weapons charge and served about a year and a half in prison before Donald Trump commuted his sentence on the last day of his presidency in 2021.
Black pleaded guilty in April 2021 to assault and battery related to a case in South Carolina in which he was accused of attacking a teenage girl. He got a suspended 10-year sentence and 18 months of probation.
He was again arrested on Jan. 1, 2022, on a trespassing charge in Pompano Beach.
A hearing in the latest case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday.
