Roaches, rodents and insects shut down 7 restaurants
Seven Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of May 7-13, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
La Castanuela Tapas & Canas at 4098 S. Orange Ave. in Orlando shut down May 9. Inspectors found five violations, two of which were a high priority for an expired license and roach activity. The restaurant met inspection standards later that day.
On May 10 inspectors found four violations. There was one high-priority violation for roach activity.
On May 11 there was only one violation, but it was not a high priority.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Tacos Mi Casita – Vin 9852 at 701 W. Lancaster Road in Orlando shut down May 8. Inspectors found eight violations, two of which were a high priority. Those violations included nonfood-grade bags touching food and roach activity.
Officials revisited the food truck May 9. They found no violations. The truck complied with the order.
Saigon Noodle And Grill at 2405 E. Washington St. in Orlando shut down May 10. Inspectors found 30 violations, nine of which were a high priority. Those violations included rodent activity, food held at the wrong temperatures and an improperly stored toxic substance.
Officials conducted a second inspection May 11. They found 12 violations, two of which were high priorities. Inspectors issued a time extension for chlorine sanitizer at the wrong strength and nonfood-grade containers used for food storage.
A follow-up inspection is required.
Lechonera Orlando at 9998 E. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down May 10. Inspectors found 12 violations, six of which were a high priority. Those violations included live, flying insects, an expired business license and rodent activity.
Officials conducted a second visit May 11. Inspectors
found three violations, two of which were a high priority. Those violations included time extensions for improperly stored food and raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
N Y Giant Pizza & Pasta Inc. at 5643 E. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down May 11. Inspectors found 25 violations, nine of which were a high priority. Those violations included roach activity, live, flying insects and moldy food.
Officials conducted a second visit May 12. Inspectors found 14 violations and issued time extensions for five high-priority violations.
The restaurant is still listed as closed at the time of this writing and requires a follow-up inspection.
Oudom Thai Restaurant at 217-B N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand shut down May 11. Inspectors found 18 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations included rodent activity, food held at the wrong temperatures and an employee touching a bare body part before engaging in food preparation.
A second inspection on the same day found nine violations. None was a high-priority violation.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Parched Oak 145 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand shut down May 8. Inspectors found 18 violations, five of which were a high priority.
Those violations included rodent activity, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and live, flying insects.
A second inspection the same day found six violations. There was one high-priority violation for live, flying insects that received a time extension.
The restaurant met inspection standards.
Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 42.
Volusia had 32 warnings, Seminole had 14, Lake had 11, Brevard had 11 and Osceola had eight.
Warnings given with required follow-up inspections could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
