Lake Brantley, Deltona, OCP host region finals

It’s been three weeks since Lake Brantley’s softball team has yielded a run to an opposing team.

The five-game stretch includes Florida High School Athletic Associatio­n district championsh­ip and regional semifinal shutouts of area rival Lake Mary.

Lake Brantley defeated Lake Mary 6-0 on Tuesday as Kiley Strott went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and Auriana Turner hit a 2-run homer.

Gabriella Mike struck out 9 and allowed 4 hits with no walks while also going 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. Mike has a 0.91 ERA with 129 strikeouts in 84 ⅓ innings pitched.

The Patriots, ranked No. 1 overall in FHSAA power rankings entering the playoffs, host Port Orange Spruce Creek in today’s Class 7A Region 1 final.

Lake Mary’s loss ends the career of longtime coach Jeannie Fisher, who retires with a 573-359 record that includes three years as a coach in West Virginia. Fisher led the Rams to a state title in 1998 and won her 500th game at the school in 2021.

“I have so much respect for Coach Fisher and all she’s accomplish­ed in her 33 years at Lake Mary,” Lake Brantley coach Jacob Stanley wrote Wednesday in a social media post. “Very grateful I had an opportunit­y to coach against, and learn from, one of the all time greats in our sport.”

Deltona and Orlando Christian Prep also play at home today in regional finals.

Hagerty, which won 9-4 against Navarre in 6A, goes on the road to face No. 1 seed Pace, which won 11-1 Wednesday vs. Oviedo (15-11). Addison Orr and Ana Roman homered Tuesday for Hagerty.

OCP plays Foundation Academy for the fourth time this spring in its first regional final appearance since 2014. Grace Thomas went 2-for-3 with a run scored and struck out 8 in a 7-2 win vs. Academy at the Lakes (17-8).

Foundation advanced by winning 7-5 at Cornerston­e Charter (20-9-1) for its first win against the Ducks in 14 tries. Kena Terry went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.

Windermere High and Deltona, a state champion last season, each advanced with shutout wins.

Katie McCaw struck out 8 and gave up 2 hits during Deltona’s 9-0 win vs. Fort Walton Beach (18-8). Lexi King finished with 4 strikeouts and 3 hits allowed as Windermere won 10-0 in six innings against Sarasota (21-5).

Montverde Academy’s Aracelis Jimenez went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles during a 3-1 vs. South Sumter (16-11).

The seasons ended Tuesday for Boone (17-6), Bishop Moore (22-4), Eustis (19-6) and Groveland South Lake (11-16).

Today’s winners advance to FHSAA state tournament­s next week in Clermont.

No. 2 Port Orange Spruce Creek (15-6) at No. 1 Lake Brantley (23-3)

Buzz: State runner-up Lake Brantley is playing in its third consecutiv­e regional final. Spruce Creek made four appearance­s from 2016-19. Patriots won 9-1 last season.

7A REGION 2

No. 2 Windermere High (24-3) at No. 1 Tampa Plant (25-4)

Buzz: Wolverines, batting .347 as a team with a 0.98 ERA, entered regionals ranked No. 10 overall in FHSAA power ratings. Plant ranks No. 7.

6A REGION 1

No. 2 Hagerty (19-7) vs. No. 1 Pace (26-1) Buzz: Huskies, who lost 11-3 vs. Oviedo in a district semifinal, are in a regional final for first time since 2018. Pace was a state semifinali­st last year that ranks No. 2 overall in power ratings.

5A REGION 1

No. 4 Orange Park Ridgeview (19-6) at No. 2 Deltona (19-4) Buzz: Deltona won the 4A state title last year after reaching the regional finals for the first time. Ridgeview advanced to 4A state semis in 2019 and ’21.

3A REGION 2

No. 2 Montverde Academy (22-6) at No. 1 Brooksvill­e Hernando (23-4) Buzz: Hernando finished 3A state runners-up in 2022 and 4A runners-up in ’21. Montverde is playing in a regional final for the first time since ’18.

2A REGION 2

No. 6 Foundation Academy (13-9) at No. 1 Orlando Christian Prep (18-1) Buzz: OCP has won 8 of

9 in the series since 2017, including three this spring by 7-6 scores. Warriors also won 7-6 and 9-8 last season. Foundation won 10-3 in 2019.
