Area athletes garner all-league selections

Durham's Goodwin, Hamilton's Wilkerson each named Coach of the Year

The all- league teams, as chosen by each league’s respective coaches, were announced on March 17.

Among the area standouts was first-year head coach Alvyna Goodwin. Goodwin, the head coach for the Durham High girls basketball team, was named Coach of the Year for the Mid-Valley Leauge.

Goodwin helped guide the Trojans to a 19-8 finish and a league title. The Trojans were led by Mid-Valley League MVP Karena Bryant. Bryant was joined by three of her teammates, Devani Sparks, Alison Smith and Abby Thorpe, as allleague selections.

The all-league selections for the Sacramento Valley League included four players from Willows, Hannah Parisio, Tayler Berens, Kendyl Garcia and Meghan Weinrich. Weinrich was named MVP after finishing with 2,555 points in her high school career.

Gridley’s Kennedy Tull was named Butte View League MVP and was joined on the all-league team by fellow Bulldogs Ally Mardesich and Sierra Spears. Orland’s Nayla Alva was also an all-league selection.

In the Eastern Athletic League, Chich High garnered an all-league selection with Tessa Kinney while Pleasant Valley’s Christiane Carlisle was also named.

Chico’s Talysha Wilkerson and PV’s Kylie Matthews were each named honorable mention.

In the Westside League, Oroville’s Kiara Johnson, Navaeh Weston and Odessa Laster
