Here’s which area parks are open and closed for the week of April 1

CHICO

Bidwell Park, Five-Mile Recreation Area, Five Mile Way: Open, no restrictio­ns, bathrooms open and few people on both ends of the park.

Bidwell Park, Lower Bidwell Park/Chico Creek Nature Center, 1912 E. 8th St.: The Nature Center is closed. The park, trails and gates around Lower Bidwell Park remain open. Signs for Flatten the COVID-19 Curve at Parks’ were posted in both English and Spanish.

Bidwell Park, One-Mile Recreation Area/Sycamore Pool/Caper Acres, 549 Vallombros­a Way: The pool is closed which is normal this time of year. Caper Acres is closed. Restrooms, grass and walkways are open as well as the swings in the middle of the park.

Bidwell Park, Upper Bidwell Park, Upper

Park Rd.: The park had no restrictio­ns, other than a note on the water fountain near Horseshoe Lake asking people to use water fountains to refill bottles only. The biggest issue was parking in Upper Park. Cars filled lots at the Chico Community Observator­y, North Rim Trail, Chico Rod and

Gun Club as well as along the opening to the park.

Chico Skate Park, 371 Humboldt Ave.: Closed.

Chico State, fields and tennis courts: Campus and grass fields are closed, but tennis courts have no sign of closure. Tuesday there were people playing with their dogs on the field behind University Stadium despite the closure signs.

Children’s Playground, 202 W. 1st St.: Closed.

Community Park, 1900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy.: The fields are open, however, the tennis courts, playground­s and bathrooms are all closed.

DeGarmo Park, 199 Leora Ct.: The playground­s and restrooms are closed as is the dog park. Some fields are closed and others are open. The picnic benches are open. Around 11 a.m. Saturday a truck was there refilling a handwashin­g station outside of the restrooms. The free library box was open.

Hooker Oak Recreation Area, 1928 Manzanita Ave.: Baseball/softball fields, picnic benches, restrooms and playground closed. Basketball courts open.

Oak Way Park, 1510 W.

8th Ave.: The playground and restrooms are closed until further notice. The basketball courts and field remain open to the public. The Oak Way Community garden remains open as well.

Peregrine Point Disc Golf Course, 7026 Deer Creek Hwy.: Open and busier than normal. The only restrictio­n was a sign on the far left parking area that warned of a red flag/high wind warning. It said no BBQs and to watch for fallen limbs, but had no mention of COVID-19.

Rotary Park, 1532 Broadway St.: The playground at the neighborho­od park was closed but the basketball court was open. The water fountain was nonoperati­onal but there was no sign saying it was closed. The Little Free Library free book exchange is closed for the time being, but people interested in a book can call (510) 693-9639.

Pine Creek Access/Sacramento River, 12405 River Rd: The Pine Creek Access gate was closed with a sign along the river that said all parking lots and campground­s in the park were temporaril­y closed. However, some people parked along the side of the road and walked to access water. Wildwood Park, 1850 Wildwood Ave.: The baseball, softball and soccer fields are open. Playground, restrooms, benches/picnic area all closed until further notice. The Wildwood Pump Dirt track for bicyclists had a sign that said closed, although there were children and parents on the course Tuesday morning.

OROVILLE

Riverbend Park, 60 Montgomery Street: The disc golf course is open however there were signs warning of COVID-19 posted around the park.
