Events planned in Butte, Glenn counties

The Fourth of July will be marked on Saturday by various events around Butte and Glenn counties. However, remember that fireworks are illegal in Butte County and its cities, except inside the limits of Gridley and Oroville.

Chico

The annual Independen­ce Day 5K run will be held virtually this year. Registrati­on of $ 15 includes a T-shirt. The nonprofit Chico Running Club encourages participan­ts to run wherever and whenever they want to on Saturday.

There will be prizes for “various ways of connecting and running together virtually,” according to the club’s Facebook page. Registrati­on is online at bit. ly/ Independen­ce5K2020Ch­ico.

The Chico Certified Farmers Market will be open, as usual from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the city parking lot, East Second and Wall streets.

Oroville

A community fireworks display is planned at the Oroville Airport on Chuck Yeager Way, starting 30 minutes after sunset or from around 9 to 10 p.m., according to the Oroville Chamber’s website.

Viewing is encouraged from Oroville homes, or tailgating from public areas. The airport will not be accessible during the event.

Public viewing spaces include Riverbend Park, 50 Montgomery St., or Nelson Avenue Sports Complex, 2290 Sixth St.

Areas that will be closed for viewing include the Clay Pits, and Rabe Road Shooting Range. The North and

South forebay areas will close at sunset. The Afterbay will close one hour after sunset. The fireworks will not be visible from Lake Oroville, according to the chamber.

If there is a Red Flag Warning regarding possible fire weather, the show will be cancelled. For informatio­n, contact the chamber at 538-2542.

Paradise

The annual Parade of Flags will be activated, with flags placed along the Skyway.

Generally the flags are put up by community volunteers in the morning and

taken down in the evening.

Willows

A fireworks display is planned, starting a little after dark. Fireworks can be viewed from residents’ back yards or along roads. Residents are encouraged to stay at home to see the display.
