Second victim alleges sex abuse by Oroville man
OROVILLE >> A second victim has come forward in an investigation into an Oroville man who is suspected of sexually abusing multiple children.
Lance Rogers, 35, was arrested Nov. 17 after a man contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office two months earlier with an accusation that he had been molested by Rogers, his babysitter, several years ago. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rogers after interviewing multiple witnesses and gathering evidence from those interviews.
Rogers has remained in custody at the Butte County Jail since his arrest, according to jail records. For the suspected charges in the first case, Rogers pleaded not guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and oral copulation of of a child under 14 by means of force, violence, duress or fear, according to Butte County Superior Court Records. During the detectives’ follow-up investigation, a second male victim contacted detectives saying Rogers molested him over a threeyear period of time, according to BCSO press release. Detectives later located evidence that they say corroborated the victim’s statements.
As a result of the second victim’s statements, Rogers was placed under arrest on Feb. 19 on suspicion of an additional charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Rogers has been arraigned on the additional charge. A further arraignment and plea entry is scheduled for March 4, according to court records.
The Sheriff’s Office is still following up on the investigation, and asks anyone with information about Rogers or the investigation to contact detectives at 530538-7671.
