PV, Chico volleyball battle 5 sets

In the second meeting of the COVID-19 shortened season, the matchup between the Pleasant Valley and Chico High volleyball teams went to five sets.

The Vikings defeated host Chico 3-2 Thursday night with set scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25 and 16-14.

Alli Mimbs led the Vikings with 10 kills and three blocks. Emma Daughtery and Mallory Moore each had four aces and Shaley Vieg totaled 17 digs.

Jade Bennett had 12 digs, Kenna Chapin had 11 digs and Mimbs added 10 digs. Delaney Thau led with 27 assists.

For Chico, Madison Struthers led with 17 kills. Maya Cann had four aces, 13 assists and 10 digs.

Nicolette Britton led with five blocks. Senors Emily Borgman and Avery Odell led with 19 digs apiece for Chico. Riley Gainza had 12 digs and Macy Mattern added 11 digs and 21 assists.

Prep girls soccer

ROCKLIN 4, CHICO 3 >> Panthers goalie Heather Lockard recorded six saves.

Karina Diaz scored the first goal of the game on an assist by Olivia Wilson. Wilson also scored the second goal on a free kick.

Wilson scored the Panthers’ third goal on an assist by Alyssa Bloxham.

Chico (1-1) plays at University Prep at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Redding.

Prep boys tennis

CHICO 8, CORNING 1 >> Vincent Randolph, Chandler Long, Kyle McGovern, Ethan Kyle and Desi

Hawkins won their singles matches for Chico.

The pairings of Randolph and Long, McGovern and Kyle and Hawkins and Garrett Janak won in doubles play.

Chico (3- 0) plays at Pleasant Valley on Tuesday. PLEASANT VALLEY 9, PARADISE ADVENTIST 0 >> Harnoor Mann, Robbie Foster, Liam Aiken, Matt Kuperman, Noah Meng and Moses Mesfin all won for the Vikings.

Mann and Foster, Liam Aiken and Lyle Aiden, and Aaron Mesfin and Jay Wulferding­er won in doubles play.

PV (2- 0) hosts Chico at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Prep swimming

PLEASANT VALLEY AT WILLOWS >> Hunter McGuire won the 100-meter freestyle in 53.32 seconds.

Colby Kennedy also won for the Vikings on Wednesday.

Ella Farris won the 200 individual medley in 2:25.07. Gabriella Mino wow the 100 butterfly in 1:02.72. Rachael Brennan also won her event for the Vikings.

PV won the meet with an overall score of 197-37.

College softball

BUTTE 12-10, REDWOODS 3-3

>> The Roadrunner­s swept College of the Redwoods on Thursday.

In the first game, Butte’s Jenna Griffith, Savannah Berkowitz and Savannah Auer each had two RBIs. Laney Berkowitz went 3-for-3.

Pitcher Savannah Wahl struck out nine batters in five shutout innings.

In the second game, Mary Avila went 2-for- 5 with a double.

Ashley Carbah went 2- for- 3 with two RBIs. Trinity Markham was 3-for-3.

Butte (4- 0) plays at College of the Siskiyous for a doublehead­er beginning at noon Saturday.
