Footballer joins sister in Hall of Fame

OROVILLE >> Oroville Union High School District 2021 Hall of Fame Inductee Douglas Post has been an outstandin­g athlete since childhood.

A member of the 1960 Oroville High School graduating class, Post’s athletic abilities were recognized for the first time when he was selected a Little League All-Star and led his team to the Western Region District 8 Championsh­ip in Santa Monica, CA when he was 11. At age 12, he was selected MVP of his all-star team.

At Oroville High, Post’s athletic talent continued to earn him honors and awards. He earned 12 Block O letters in his three sports; was chosen “most athletic” for three straight years; and, in his junior year, led the Tiger football team to an undefeated season. That year the team was ranked third in Northern California by the San Francisco Chronicle. As a senior, Post led the football team to a second-place league finish and, by unanimous vote, was named AllSierra Foothill League Quarterbac­k and a mem- ber of the Northern California Football All-Star Team. He was also the leading rebounder on his basketball team and led the baseball team in every major hitting category as a senior

Following graduation Post attended the University of Oregon, Eugene. Playing for College Hall of Fame coach Len Casanova, Post earned his football letter in his sophomore, junior and senior years. Post earned both his undergradu­ate and master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management from the university.

Post went on to an illustriou­s 31-year career in his field ultimately serving as Director of Recreation and Parks for the Municipali­ty of Eugene. In 1997 he received the Distinguis­hed Service Award from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Society.

Post was also an active community and UOE volunteer coaching youth football and girls’ softball for 15 years and Executive Director of the Senior Sports Festival for 10 years. He also organized the University Alumni Golf Group for 28 years. Other organizati­ons who benefited from his volunteer work were the Veterans Clinic, Veterans Hospital and the Food Recovery Mission.

Post also caddied for the

Nike Tour Golf Classic in 1998 and 1999. He served as an official for the U.S Women’s Amateur Golf Championsh­ip in 2008, the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championsh­ips, the 2016 NCAA Golf Championsh­ips, the NCAA Track and Field Championsh­ips in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials in 2008, 2012 and 2016, the Prefontain­e Track and Field Classic in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and for the National Senior Amateur Golf Championsh­ip in 2018.

Post and his wife Linda have lived in Eugene since 1963 and have two daughters and two granddaugh­ters. Post’s sister, Charlotte Post Ross, was inducted into the OUHSD Hall of Fame in 2018. His older brother Bob Post and sister Diane Post are also OHS alumni.
