Driver dies after crashing into oleanders on I-5

WILLOWS >> A 54-year-old man died Thursday in a crash on Interstate 5 north of Glenn County Road 48 near Willows.

The driver of a 2020 Isuzu NPR-XD delivery truck was traveling south when he strayed into the center median of the freeway around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

The Isuzu overturned after crashing into the oleander bushes in the median and ended up in the north bound lanes of the freeway.

Traffic going north was diverted onto the freeway’s shoulder as the CHP investigated the crash, but officers have yet to determine why the driver went into the median.

The driver, a 54-yearold man from Sacramento, died from his injuries. The CHP won’t release his name until his next-ofkin has been notified of his death.
