At least Trump wasn’t in charge

-

In the 1964 movie, “A Shot In The Dark,” French Police Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) falls off of a sofa while interrogating suspects, leaps to his feet and asks, “What Happened?” “You fell off of the sofa you idiot.” replied a female suspect. “Of course I fell off of the sofa Madame.”, Clouseau responded. “Everything I do is carefully planned.”

I was reminded of the Clouseau character and this particular dialog when Joe Biden assured us, “We planned for every contingency.” while defending his withdrawal from Afghanistan. I agree with both Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw and Biden’s decision to follow through with the withdrawal, but the manner in which it has been executed is completely appalling.

The fake news pundits have assured us since January that competence had returned to the White House and our government was functioning like a well-oiled machine. Trump’s amateur hour was over and seasoned professionals were back in charge. The children had been sent to bed and the grown ups were running the show.

And what a show this has been. Apparently planned by Laurel & Hardy and carried out by The Three Stooges, the Biden bunch couldn’t even keep their lies coordinated. To describe them as Keystone Kops would be to insult the Keystone Kops.

The only staff member who displayed good judgment was the press secretary who went on vacation. But thank goodness Donald Trump wasn’t still in charge. If he were, this may have been a dysfunctional, chaotic catastrophe.
