Police allegedly uncover stolen gun during traffic stop

A Chico police officer was on routine patrol on Ivy Street at West First Street around midnight, Tuesday, Aug. 31. The officer stopped a passing motorist suspecting a vehicle code infraction.

The vehicle stopped and had five occupants in it. The driver, Ivory Peteet, 20, did not have a valid driver’s license, according to a news release from the Chico Police Deaprtment. Police say there were also open containers of alcohol in the vehicle.

Additional officers arrived on scene to assist. Officers began to ask the occupants step out of the vehicle to continue their investigat­ion.

Officers had the front passenger, Sacy Diallo, 20, exit the vehicle. Diallo exited the car when police says Diallo struck an officer in the face and attempted to flee. Officers on scene were able to subdue and arrest Diallo on suspicion of assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest with force. During a search, officers allegedly located a loaded, stolen .22 caliber revolver in Diallo’s pants pocket. Officers also say they located marijuana packaged for sale in Diallo’s belongings.

Peteet, was ultimately arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Diallo was booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest with force, battery on a peace officer and carrying a loaded, stolen, firearm in public.
