We deserve better from state government
Follow the money. According to CalMatters, recall opponents (those supporting Gavin Newsom) have raised $62M as of August 30. The majority of this has come from public sector unions who now control California’s government. See for yourself at https://calmatters.org/politics/2021/05/gavin-newsom-recall-money/
Recall supporters have raised $28 million. $20 million to support the top eight recall candidates and $8 million to fund the recall itself. Governor Newsom has raised more than twice as much money as the recall supporters. Newsom and his supporters tell you they are about: alleviating poverty, reducing homelessness, minimizing income inequality, improving education.
Let’s see how they have done. California: has the HIGHEST rate of poverty (adjusted for the cost of living) in the country, has the highest rate of unsheltered homeless in the country, is 48th of the 50 states in income inequality, is a state where only 36% of public school students read at grade level .
The policies of Newsom and his team have utterly and completely failed to alleviate these problems. With all the resources at their disposal these problems are only getting worse. With a Democrat governor for 11 years, supermajorities in the State Legislature, and financed with some of the highest taxes in the country, California should be the US leader in accomplishing these goals. It’s time to try something different.
Thomas Jefferson famously said, “The government you elect is the government you deserve.” We deserve better, it’s starts with voting YES on the recall.
