Woman riding bicycle in Chico suffers ‘serious injuries to her leg’

CHICO >> A young woman was trapped underneath a garbage truck while riding a bicycle after the truck hit her early Tuesday morning at the intersecti­on of West Sacramento and Nord avenues.

Lt. Omar Peña of the Chico Police Department said that police received a call from a witness around 7:55 a.m. alerting them to the wreck. Chico police and the Chico Fire Department responded to the scene.

“She was in a fair amount of pain but was alert and was able to give basic informatio­n,” Pena said. “She had serious injuries to her leg.”

The woman was transporte­d to a nearby hospital. Peña said the collision was not intentiona­l. The Chico Police Major Accident Investigat­ion Team is investigat­ing the crash and the details are unknown. Police said they are waiting to hear back from the hospital about the woman’s condition. West Sacramento and Nord were closed after the crash.
