Woman riding bicycle in Chico suffers ‘serious injuries to her leg’

CHICO >> A young woman was trapped underneath a garbage truck while riding a bicycle after the truck hit her early Tuesday morning at the intersection of West Sacramento and Nord avenues.

Lt. Omar Peña of the Chico Police Department said that police received a call from a witness around 7:55 a.m. alerting them to the wreck. Chico police and the Chico Fire Department responded to the scene.

“She was in a fair amount of pain but was alert and was able to give basic information,” Pena said. “She had serious injuries to her leg.”

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital. Peña said the collision was not intentional. The Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash and the details are unknown. Police said they are waiting to hear back from the hospital about the woman’s condition. West Sacramento and Nord were closed after the crash.
