Several local tournament­s making return

The weekly game for the Butte Creek Women’s Golf Club was called “Beauty and the Beast”.

The threeplaye­r, blind draw teams, counted one best-ball and one worst-ball for the two scores.

The team of Sherrie Kimmelshue, Barbara Joronen and Marilyn Brownfield took first with a score of 147.

One stroke back at 148 for second place was the team of Irma Jenkins, Joye Smith and Darlene Thomasson. The team of Jeanie Lowe, Sandy Fortino and Carol Varley rounded out the payoff spots with a score of 150.

Chico-Paradise SIR’s Golf Club

The Chico-Paradise SIR’s Golf Club stayed close to home and played Bidwell last week for its semi-monthly tournament.

The format was a 3 or 4 player scramble. The tournament guru,

Darrell Hands, had to do some shuffling of the teams when there were several no-shows.

Winning the first flight was the team of Hands, Craig Herman, Cap Porterfiel­d and Doug Shook with a team score of 58.4. Taking second was the team of Rich Carlson,

Sam Davis, Chris Garret and Steve Storm at 59.1. Second flight: 1, Norm Atkin, Bob Wessels and Manuel Salcido, 55.4; 2, Jake Dahl, Charles Demmer, Jack Skibo and Dan Solomon, 56.7.

Closest to pin on No. 4: 1, Jeff Eber; 2, Sam Smith; 3, Matt Cabral. Closest to pin on No. 16: 1, Dahl, Hands, Paul Brossoit.

Canyon Oaks CC

The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club played a Shamble format for its weekly game.

The team of Susan Wever, Fran Wedow and Jakki Thomas along with the team of Evie Spring, Linda Arellano, and Dorothy Cranston tied for the first spot with a score of 118. Taking third was also a tie at 123, with the teams of Shelley Carney, Melinda Self and Nancy Taylor, and the team of Cynthia Paulo, Pat Radisich nd Cathy Edgar. Closest to pin on No. 3: 1, Bonnie Seely, Paulo and Taylor.

Spectacula­r shots

Mario Sagastumi found the 14th hole at Canyon Oaks to his liking last week.

Sagastumi hit a perfect 125-yard, 6-iron into the cup as attested by his playing companions, Mike Manna, Mike McGowan and Dino Molatore.

Upcoming tourneys

The Oroville City Championsh­ip, Two-Person Better Ball is scheduled for September 18-19 at Table Mountain Gold Course. The entry fee is $50 per team for nonmembers, not including a cart or green fee. The fee for members is $22 if walking and $36 if riding. Table Mountain GC is also hosting a “Tee-offFore-the-Kids” tournament on Saturday, October 23. The entry fee for this annual 4-person scramble fundraiser is $80 per person and includes cart, green fee, lunch and prizes. The 94th Annual City Chico Golf Championsh­ip (the second longest running city championsh­ip in California) is scheduled for September 11-12, 18-19.

The low 32 players in the morning qualifying round on the 11th will move into match play to determine the overall champion.

After a 2-year hiatus because of COVID 19, the Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf, in concert with the Country Club staff, is hosting the 23rd Annual Pink Ribbon Open Golf Tournament.

This is a four-person scramble format with separate flights for men, women and mixed teams. The entry fee for the Sunday, Sept. 26 charity event is $60 for COCC members and $100 for non-members, and includes golf, cart, range balls, breakfast and lunch.

The proceeds go to support the local Bridging the Gap for Breast Cancer charity. Call the golf shop, 343-1116, for additional informatio­n and to sign-up a team.
