This recall is a charade

-

I urge all citizens to vote no on the recall attempt to oust duly elected governor, Gavin Newsom. Whether or not you support the Governor, a no vote is critical for three reasons. First, the estimated cost to California taxpayers is expected to be about $270 million, needed resources that could be used for much more important things such as fire support.

Second, Governor Newsom’s term ends in just over a year and that is the time to cast your ballot in support or opposition. Finally, California’s recall process is a joke and a slap in the face to democracy: if indeed the yes votes outnumber the no votes, we will have a new governor who will likely be ‘elected’ with as little as 20% of the vote. It’s time to end the recall charade and to urge our state lawmakers to enact a higher ceiling on the threshold of recalling our elected officials, allowing democracy to survive and thrive. — Joe Gleason, Chico
