Let’s work for Chico’s economic vitality

It was discouraging to listen to council meeting speakers try to ice-out the planned ice skating rink at Tuesday’s council meeting. Where are the believers in our economic recovery? Who will fight to improve downtown if efforts will be blindsided by a minority who consume council meetings?

The ice skating rink is one of the best plans ever put in the budget. It will give a fresh reason to come downtown. It will provide a community experience, outside, on cool Chico nights. It has appeal for a wide variety of households. There are a hundred positive reasons to support a seasonal ice skating rink downtown.

We must work and fight and believe that once we deal with drug addiction and mental illness, an attractive and economically strong Chico will still stand.

Instead of backing down, let’s double down.
