OROVILLE » Free weights and weight machines, a rowing machine, treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and stability balls are all a part of the new COVID-19 friendly weight room at the Oroville YMCA, which reopened Monday after being closed since March because of the pandemic.

In addition the Oroville YMCA is waving its $50 joining fee until Sept. 30 ahead of the opening day Sept. 27.

Oroville YMCA Program Director Sarah Pierce said that the organization has decided to waive the joining fee as part of its celebration for reopening. The YMCA will have its grand opening Sept. 27 but opened Wednesday and is accepting memberships.

“We have the Salmon Festival coming up with the 3K run and we just want to encourage people to come in and check it out and see what’s going on,” Pierce said.

The new weight room — which was closed because the old weight room was too confined to comply with COVID-19 regulations — is double the size of the previous workout facility and will now offer coaching, personal training and group fitness classes led by trainers Cayndis Adams and Regina Ortega.

With the joining fee waved, membership costs for youths age 12-18 are $15 per month, ages 19-29 is $30 per month, ages 3061 is $40 per month and a

membership for a household with two adults and dependents is $70 per month. The cost for seniors over the age of 62 years old

is $35 per month.

One can visit the YMCA for free for the first time and day passes are $5.

Other activities available

at the YMCA include a heated pool, swim lessons for all ages, aquatics classes, kids camps, youth sports, pickle ball and volleyball courts, weekly nutrition classes, open swim on Saturdays and Sundays, lap swim, children and adult theater programs and adult basketball league which is coming soon.

The weight room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and open gym basketball is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
