Chico High tennis team still undefeated
Panthers knock off Shasta
The Chico High tennis team defeated Shasta 9-0 Monday at Shasta High School.
In singles Page Sittanggang won 6-1, 6-2 before her cousin Sydney Vaughn won 6-4, 6-0. Skylar Granlund won her first set 6-2 and dropped the second set 5-7 before winning 10-7 in a third-set tiebreaker. Aubrey Layland, Addison Fowkes and Julia McGarva all won in straight sets for the panthers.
In doubles the cousins Sittanggang and Vaughn won 8-6, Granlund and Layland won 8-2 and Erika Matson and Kaylee Morehead won 8-0.
Chico (4-0, 3-0 Eastern Athletic League) plays at 3:30 p.m. before playing at 3:30 p.m. at Foothill on Thursday.
Prep field hockey
CHICO 6, RED BLUFF 0 » Chico won at Red Bluff on Monday led by three goals by Portia Downey. Fiona Nielsen scored one goal and had an assist for the Panthers, and Klaire Burgess and JoJo Bishop had one assist each.
Coach Kim Keyawa credited Ainsley Starmer and Teresa Mendonca with strong games defensively in the shutout for Chico.
Chico (3-2) plays next at 5 p.m. Friday at home against Corning.
College men’s soccer
ACADEMY OF ART AT CHICO STATE » Chico State’s match against Academy of Art scheduled for Sunday was called off after Chico State announced Academy
of Art requested the match be canceled.
“Sunday’s scheduled Chico State men’s soccer game has been canceled at the request of Academy of Art, which is dealing with a rash of injuries and did not have enough remaining healthy players to make the trip,” Chico State announced on its
website.
Chico State sports information director Luke Reid confirmed Tuesday the non-conference game will not be rescheduled.
Chico State (1-4) will play its final non-conference matchup at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Humboldt State.
The Wildcats will begin
California Collegiate Athletic Association play at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at home against Cal State San Bernardino.
